You could say Bad Boy Records started with the signing of two good rappers, Craig Mack and Notorious B.I.G. Notorious came out with his first album under the label called "Ready to Die". With P. Diddy producing the tracks and the great talent of Notorious B.I.G. the album made multi-platinum status.

Then In 1995 P. Diddy decided that it would be best for his record label to sign with a much bigger label. With the label under the popular Arista records, Bad Boy was able to increase marketing and make a name for itself. Soon signing more artist Bad boy climbed to the top up with the other big labels of it time with many multi-platinum albums.

In June of this year(2004) P. Diddy and CEO of Arista Records decided that the record labels would be splitting up. With the split P.Diddy would remain CEO of his company along with the artist lineup.
